🎨 Fully Customizable

Make it your own! Add a layer of fruit jam, fresh berries, or even chocolate chips between the cake layers. Garnish the top with strawberries, raspberries, chocolate curls, or edible flowers to match any occasion or theme.

This cake is an entertainer’s dream.

  • The cake layers freeze beautifully for up to a month.
  • The buttercream stays fresh in the fridge for 2–3 days.

Instructions

1

Make the Chocolate Cake

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch pans. Whisk flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients, then stir in hot coffee (or hot water). Pour into pans and bake 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs. Let cool completely on a wire rack.
2

Make the Chocolate Buttercream

Beat butter until creamy. Add cocoa powder and mix well. Gradually beat in powdered sugar, adding cream as needed for smoothness. Add vanilla and a pinch of salt; whip until light and fluffy.
3

Make the Ganache

Heat cream until steaming (not boiling). Pour over chopped chocolate. Let sit 1 minute. Stir until smooth. Add butter for extra shine if desired. Let cool until it reaches a pourable consistency.
4

Assemble the Cake

Level the cake layers if needed. Spread buttercream over the first layer. Top with the second layer and frost the entire cake. Pour slightly cooled ganache over the top, letting it drip beautifully down the sides. Decorate with berries, chocolate curls, or sprinkles.
